An officer-involved shooting is under investigation after a fatal incident involving Virginia Police in Northern Minnesota.
According to the Virginia Police Department, they had recieved a call around 8:20 a.m. that a man wearing a ski mask was walking back and forth on 2nd Avenue South in the City of Virginia while waving a handgun around.
Virginia Police said responding officers found a man who was walking on the sidewalk with what “appeared to be a handgun.”
Officers reportedly ordered the man to drop what he had in his hand, which he allegedly refused to do.
Police said the man then pointed “what appeared to be a handgun” towards officers, resulting in an officer firing their gun at the man, shooting him.
The man was taken to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
No officers were injured in the incident, and all police members involved in the incident have been placed on critical incident leave as part of standard procedure for officer-involved shootings.
Virginia police have not confirmed at this time if the man had been holding a gun, as officers had suspected.
Officers involved in the incident were wearing body cameras.
The BCA says its agents and crime scene personnel are investigating the incident.
