Flying with medicine doesn’t have to be stressful — and TSA has made that crystal clear amid lots of traveler confusion. In an update posted to X (formerly Twitter), the agency confirmed that travelers are not required to keep prescription drugs in their original bottles when flying. That means pill organizers, daily travel cases, or even resealable bags are perfectly acceptable for pills and other solid medications.
The agency also reiterated that solid medications are allowed in unlimited quantities in both carry-on and checked bags. And when it comes to liquids, you’re allowed to bring medications over the standard 3.4-ounce limit — just let the officer know at the checkpoint before screening.
TSA still recommends keeping medications in your carry-on bag rather than checked luggage, so you’ll have them handy (and safe) in case of delays or lost baggage.
You can always use TSA’s “What Can I Bring?” tool online to double-check rules before heading to the airport.
