WICHITA FALLS (KFDX/KJTL) — May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and Selah Trauma Counseling Center wants to help Wichita Falls residents struggling with trauma.

Licensed counselor Jennyfer Rosado with Selah said the center treats people with symptoms of PTSD or complex PTSD.

“Trauma is going to be anything that overwhelms the body and the brain together,” Rosado said. “It’s persistent. We tend to have a lot of adaptations in relationships.”

At Selah Trauma Counseling Center, they use multiple methods of therapy, including: brainspotting, EMDR, somatic experiencing and play therapy.

Rosado said talk therapy is used in conjunction with other types because of the connection between our bodies and our brains.

“What happens in the body happens in the brain. What happens in the brain is also happening in the body,” Rosado said. “We’ve got our nervous system and all of the complexities of that, as as the parts that go on in the brain – so the limbic system and the brainstem, etc…”

Healing from trauma can be a long process, and Rosado said they focus on longer-term forms of therapy, but they can work on shorter schedules for grants or if needed.

The ultimate goal for those who work at Selah is to help their patients live their lives.

“There’s so much joy and hope when people find who they are again, are able to connect relationally,” Rosado said. “Be able to just live life and not survive.”

Selah accepts patients as young as three years old for counseling. You can reach out through their website or give them a call or send them a text at (940) 536-0588.
