COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) – On Wednesday, former Columbia Fireflies pitcher Eric Cerantola made his Major League debut with the Kansas City Royals.
The right-handed pitcher threw a scoreless ninth inning, striking out two against the Cleveland Guardians.
Cerantola is the 33rd Fireflies player to make his Major League debut—and the first to do so during the 2026 season.
The Royals selected Cerantola in the fifth round of the 2021 draft after three years at Mississippi State.
He has posted a 3.59 ERA over 245.2 minor-league innings with 326 strikeouts. Cerantola’s 11.84 K/9 is tied for the 13th-best mark among pitchers with at least 240 minor-league innings since 2022.
