Police: Carjacking results in police shooting after officer struck by car
ARE IN THE GREEN. WE ARE FOLLOWING BREAKING NEWS OF A POLICE SHOOTING IN ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY. WBAL TV 11 JENNIFER FRANCIOTTI IS LIVE AT THE SCENE WITH THE LATEST. GOOD MORNING JEN. HEY GUYS. GOOD MORNING. SO MANY DIFFERENT ASPECTS TO THIS STORY. FIRST OF ALL, AN ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY POLICE OFFICER IS RECOVERING AFTER BEING HIT BY A CAR. A CAR THAT POLICE SAY HAD BEEN CARJACKED FROM THE NORTHERN DISTRICT AROUND 9:00 LAST NIGHT. BUT THIS IS WHERE IT ALL ENDED HERE ON PIONEER DRIVE IN SEVEN. SO APPARENTLY THE CARJACKING TOOK PLACE AROUND 9:00 IN THE NORTHERN DISTRICT. THEY FOUND THAT CAR ABOUT 30 MINUTES LATER, THE FEMALE DRIVER, THE SUSPECT INVOLVED IN THIS HIT THE POLICE OFFICER. THE POLICE OFFICER WAS ABLE TO OPEN FIRE ON THE SUSPECT ALONG WITH ANOTHER OFFICER. THE CAR ENDED UP CRASHING. THE DRIVER TOOK OFF ON FOOT AND ENDED UP GETTING APPREHENDED. SHE WAS TAKEN INTO CUSTODY. IT WAS REVEALED THAT ONE OF THOSE GUNSHOTS HIT HER SHOULDER, SO SHE WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL FOR TREATMENT. WE KNOW SHE IS FACING MULTIPLE CHARGES THIS MORNING. A carjacking in Severn ended up with a woman shot by police after allegedly hitting an officer with her car. According to Anne Arundel County police, a carjacking occurred around 9 p.m. in the northern district. Police found the car about a half hour later on Pioneer Drive in Severn. Police said the suspect then struck an officer with the car and then police opened fire, forcing the car to crash. Police said the suspect then fled on foot and officers were able to catch her after a brief pursuit. The suspect suffered a wound to the shoulder and was taken to the hospital. The officer who was struck by the car was also sent to the hospital, but has been released. The suspect is facing multiple charges as the investigation continues.This is a developing story.
