WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan passed away at age 71 last month.
On Tuesday, Aug. 5, the renowned wrestler was laid to rest at a private funeral in Florida. Hulk’s daughter, Brooke Hogan, wasn’t in attendance.
Later that day, she took to Instagram to share a collection of photos featuring her husband, former NHL player Steven Oleksy, and their fraternal twins, Oliver and Molly, enjoying a family beach day. In her caption, Brooke explained why she decided to forgo her father’s service.
“My father hated the morbidity of funerals. He didn’t want one,” Brooke began her post. The 37-year-old former reality star went on to explain that while she was “so grateful for all celebrations and events organized to honor him,” she personally wanted to grieve in a different way.
“I had to make my own decision to honor him the best and most genuine way I knew how…privately…the way that made me feel the closest to him,” she said.
Her post then included a heartfelt message to her father. “Daddy, we honored you in the simplest way that agreed with my soul. We took our babies to the beach, and put them in the same salty waters you loved.”
Brooke shared how special it was to bring her twins, who were born in January, to the beach, just as Hulk used to take her there during her childhood.
“We love you and honor the things that made you so special. Every grain of sand and every wave reminded me of being your beach baby, and brought us closer to you. I pray you are at peace and know how dearly I love you. Rest in heaven, Daddy,” she continued.
Hulk, whose real name was Terry Gene Bollea, passed away on July 24 from acute myocardial infarction, commonly known as a heart attack.
The 12-time world champion remained a prominent figure in pop culture over the years, starring in films such as “Rocky III” and “Mr. Nanny,” as well as the reality show “Hogan Knows Best,” which followed his life as a father to Brooke and son Nick Hogan, whom he shared with his now ex-wife, Linda Hogan.
