The Kentucky Wildcats are currently preparing for year number two in the Mark Pope era, and the roster looks incredibly exciting.
One freshman, Kentucky native Malachi Moreno, has high expectations for the upcoming season and has one goal that he is focused on.
“There’s a standard here at Kentucky, and that’s to be the best, and that’s to want to be the best,” Moreno told reporters at a recent press conference. “Being a local guy, I feel like growing up, you understand what the assignment is. But it’s also new territory at the end of the day.
“As long as we all have the same mindset for winning number nine, I think we’ll be in really good shape.
You can read between the lines in that quote and probably guess what his one goal is, but if you didn’t get it this time, maybe this will help a little bit more…
“I’ve got one goal and one goal only, and that’s to win number nine,” Moreno said. “Whether I play five minutes or 25 minutes, as long as we’re winning, I couldn’t care less.”
For a freshman to have that kind of mindset, it is clear that the culture is exactly where Pope needs it to be.
This roster will be incredibly competitive in a very stacked SEC and can easily make some noise come postseason time.
I am sure all Kentucky fans have the same hopes as Moreno, so now we get to sit back and enjoy the show.
