The Indiana Fever are determined to make the just-started WNBA season a banner one for them. They have been hard at work, making sure what they put in aligns with the goal they set.

Veteran guard Sophie Cunningham attested to it, sharing that they are not leaving any stone unturned in practice to make their game as well-rounded as possible to collectively achieve the desired effect.

The Fever were all about hard work in practice

The former Missouri standout touched on it on her “Show Me Something” podcast, highlighting that they, as a team, are embracing hard work and consistency from training through the games themselves.

“I think everyone’s goal is always to win a championship, especially when you have the talent, like, everyone wants that. That is a no-brainer. But I truly do think that, like, it’s all about your daily deposits,” Cunningham shared.

“And so I know that sounds so simple but, like, what are you doing? What is your team doing every single day in order to move in a positive direction? You’re either getting better or you’re getting worse every day. And sometimes getting better looks really shitty. Like in practice [we do suicide runs] every time we mess up,” she continued.

The Fever did well last season despite missing superstar guard Caitlin Clark, who was limited to just 13 games because of injuries. They made it to their second straight playoff appearance, reaching the semifinals before losing to eventual WNBA champion Las Vegas Aces in a do-or-die Game 5.

Clark is back in harness this season, joining forces with fellow All-Stars Kelsey Mitchell and Aliyah Boston. Apart from Cunningham, Lexie Hull was also signed back. Veteran forward Monique Billings is now part of the team from the Golden State Valkyries, along with rookies Raven Johnson and Justine Pissott.

Stephanie White enters his second season as Fever coach and is looking to take her team deeper in the race while banking on the flexibility that Clark’s return brings.

“It was such a hard year, a year ago, when you’re going through injury. It’s tough when you’re in and out, it’s tough when you’re not able to do what you love,” White said of Clark.

“And so I just want to see her play with joy. I want to see her enjoy the opportunity that we have and this team and go out and do what she does best,” the coach added.

Record national TV games

As the Fever try to make their way to the top, the nation will be all eyes on them as all of their 44 regular-season games will be broadcast on national television, a record for the franchise and the only team in the league to be given such exposure this season.

Fever games will be aired across the league’s host of broadcast partners, including four games on ABC, six games on ESPN, two games on NBC, three games on Peacock, seven games on ION, eight games on Prime Video, four games on CBS, nine games on USA, and one game on NBA TV.

Indiana tips off the regular season at home against Paige Bueckers and the Dallas Wings on Saturday. The team then travels to Los Angeles on Wednesday to play the Sparks.

The Fever are gunning for even bigger gains this season, and taking a cue from what Cunningham said, they are well set for their push, and the field should take notice.
