The 2026 WNBA season got underway last week, and although the Dallas Wings have already played a game, their home opener was not scheduled until Monday against the Atlanta Dream. And Wings star Paige Bueckers made sure to show up in style to the home opener, dressed in full Cowgirl attire.
“Real Texas right here,” Bueckers said as she walked into the arena. “First home game, home opener. I haven’t got real Texas yet but I got the cowgirl boots, the cowgirl hat, everything in between, got some leather vest … real Texas right here.”
Amid Paige Bueckers’ Cowgirl attire, the Wings will be looking to open the year with consecutive wins after getting the victory in their season opener against the Indiana Fever last Saturday. Bueckers finished that game with 20 points, three rebounds, four assists and one steal in 32 minutes of play. She shot 8-of-10 from the field, 1-of-3 from the 3-point line and 3-of-6 from the free-throw line.
Bueckers is coming off a Rookie of the Year campaign in which she was selected as an All-Star in her first season. She appeared in 36 out of 44 games as a rookie, at a little over 33 minutes per game. She averaged 19.2 points, 3.9 rebounds, 5.4 assists and 1.6 steals with splits of 47.7 percent shooting from the field, 33.1 percent shooting from the 3-point line and 88.8 percent shooting from the free-throw line.
The Wings have renewed optimism this season under new head coach Jose Fernandez. The team selected Bueckers’ former UConn teammate Azzi Fudd with the No. 1 overall pick, and added key players via free agency in Alanna Smith and Jessica Shepard.
