Unfortunately for the Dallas Wings, rookie guard Azzi Fudd won’t be available for their home opener against the Atlanta Dream.
Fudd had a rough debut this past Saturday against the Indiana Fever. Although the Wings secured a 107-104 victory on the road, the No. 1 overall pick from the 2026 WNBA Draft only took two shots attempts in 18 minutes of action.

ESPN analyst Chiney Ogwumike ripped the Wings for the way they utilized Fudd in their season opener.
“She needs to have the opportunity to create her own destiny,” Ogwumike said, via The Sporting News. “You have the No. 1 pick, and the last thing you want is for her not to feel completely confident. Azzi Fudd is the best shooter we’ve seen in a long time, she’s a pure shooter. You don’t want to create that lack of confidence in your number one pick.”

Fudd will have to wait for a chance to redeem herself. She’s been ruled out for Tuesday’s game due to a knee injury.

What makes this announcement so surprising is that Fudd was listed as probable just 24 hours ago.
Fans are worried about Azzi’s health.
“She participated fully in practice yesterday and at shoot around so I hope this is all just precautionary,” one fan said. “Rest up Azzi. Hope she catches a break soon.”
“Health is the most important thing so i wouldn’t want to risk it but this hurts,” a Wings fan wrote on X.
“Good, let her rest. Knee injuries are no joke at all,” another fan commented.

“I’m trying to stay calm,” a social media user said.
It’s possible the Wings are just sitting Fudd so she can be fully healthy for Thursday’s game against the Minnesota Lynx.
For now though, WNBA fans are seriously concerned about Fudd’s knee injury. To be fair, she’s torn her ACL multiple times.
