This week, the Guardian published an article reporting that a French woman aboard the MV Hondius — the ship at the center of the hantavirus outbreak — reported her hantavirus symptoms to doctors onboard, but she was told it was probably stress or anxiety. However, the morning of May 12, the paper took down the article, with the note that the article “was removed after the Guardian was notified of a fundamental misunderstanding of remarks from Javier Padilla Bernáldez. The Spanish health secretary had been describing a separate case involving a person who was not confirmed to have hantavirus, not the French woman who had tested positive after evacuation from the ship.” Honestly, phew!
