KALAMAZOO, Mich. — The city of Kalamazoo is offering a rain barrel and composting product sale to support conservation.
The sale, which partners with Upcycle Products, will support water conservation, protect local waterways, and promotes environmental sustainability, city officials said.
Orders must be placed by August 27 online, or August 25 by mail. Pickup will take place on August 30 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 415 E Stockbridge Avenue, Kalamazoo, MI 49001.
Rain barrels collect rainwater from rooftops that can be reused for watering gardens, lawns, and landscaping. This helps reduce stormwater runoff, which minimizes the flow of pollutants into rivers and lakes, while lowering water usage.
Several products are available. Rain barrels are offered in 55-gallon models, wide-overflow designs that accommodate heavier rainfall, and decorative 50-gallon terracotta options. A 275-gallon rainwater tote is also available.
Composters are offered in tumbling and stationary styles. All items are made from repurposed materials, and are BPA-free, according to a release.
The first 25 people to pick up an order at the August 30 event will receive a free bag of finished compost, courtesy of Organicycle, LLC.
