After a successful week of recruiting, I saw a few headlines about how Virginia Tech football’s recruiting class currently ranks in the top 20.
I appreciate the hot start, and I’m definitely encouraged about recruiting with James Franklin in charge. However, it’s a little bit disingenuous to be doing any chest-thumping about recruiting rankings this early in the cycle.
As we know, recruiting rankings are as much about quantity as quality, and as of Monday, the Hokies have 11 commitments, which ranks third in the ACC. They are one of five ACC programs with double-digit verbals, while 12 of the 17 programs have between two and seven commitments.
Here’s a sortable table that breaks down each ACC school by total commitments, number of four- and five-star pledges and average star ranking.
