EUGENE, Ore. – The Eugene Family YMCA is offering free financial literacy classes for adults, high schoolers and middle schoolers.
The program is called “Financial Beginnings.” In partnership with Oregon Community Credit Union, the classes will teach participants how to manage credit cards, understand credit reports and balance checkbooks.
“Now, let’s teach them how to be financially responsible at a young age, and how to understand stuff like, what does a credit report look like? How do you balance your checkbook? Things like that…real basic stuff,” Casper said.
The course will also cover financial budgeting and personal information security measures. Casper said the YMCA wants to help youth avoid identity fraud and protect their savings.
The class is scheduled for May 19 from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. It’s free for YMCA members and all youth. Adult guest passes can be purchased.
Registration in advance is required. More information is available on the Eugene Family YMCA’s website.
