PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) – It was game night again in Fire Pit as the Portland Fire looked to make it two in a row against New York after their buzzer beating thriller on Tuesday.
Former Oregon Ducks Sabrina Ionescu and Satou Sabally were in the building again for the second game of the Liberty’s back to back in the Moda Center, but were once again inactive due to injury and illness.
Nyadiew Pouch and Portland brought the heat inside and out of the basket weave. The 21-year-old from Tasmania, Australia, pushed Portland to a 20-14 first quarter lead, notching 13 points in the game.
While Carla Leite was out with an ankle injury suffered in Tuesday’s victory, Sug Sutton made her Portland debut. Sutton had 8 assists and 8 points in 20 minutes.
The Liberty had just activated Alex Fowler before the game, who became the first Portland Pilot alum to ever play in the WNBA. Fowler tallied 12 points for New York.
Meanwhile, Liberty star Breanna Stewart led the team with 22 points.
100-82 was the final in favor of New York as the Fire fall to 1-2 on the season.
The Fire will close out their four-game opening homestand on Monday night against Connecticut Sun
From there, it’s on to Indiana, Toronto and New York for the first road trip. All of those games can be seen live on Rose City Sportsnet.
The Fire are set to host the Sun at 7 p.m. on Monday.
