Coco Gauff recently celebrated after winning her second doubles title at the 2025 Canadian Open. She claimed her first doubles title at the tournament in 2022 alongside partner Jessica Pegula. The American duo had triumphed over the pair of Nicole Melichar-Martinez and Ellen Perez to claim the title.
Gauff’s singles campaign at the WTA 1000 hard court event in Montreal this year concluded in the fourth round with a loss to wild card Victoria Mboko. Soon after, she redirected her focus to the doubles event, where she partnered with compatriot McCartney Kessler.
How Did Coco Gauff React to Winning the Doubles Title at the 2025 Canadian Open?
Gauff and Kessler commenced their doubles campaign at the 2025 Canadian Open with a victory over the duo of Fanny Stollár and Wu Fang-hsien in the first round. They followed it with a win against the seventh-seeded team of Lyudmyla Kichenok and Ellen Perez in the second round.
In the quarterfinals, the American pair triumphed over Barbora Krejčíková and Jeļena Ostapenko, and then advanced to the final by defeating Olga Danilović and Hsieh Su-wei in the semifinals.
In the championship match, Gauff and Kessler faced the third-seeded duo of Taylor Townsend and Zhang Shuai and won 6-4, 1-6, [13-11] to claim the doubles title at the 2025 Canadian Open.
Following her title win at the WTA 1000 event in Montreal, Gauff took to social media to celebrate her victory. She humorously noted that she had temporarily come out of retirement from doubles to secure the title.
“lol temporarily came out of doubles retirement and got a dub!” Gauff captioned her Instagram story.
The World No. 2 also posted a photo featuring herself and Kessler alongside Townsend and Zhang, posing with their trophies.
“🎉🎉🎉🎉,” she added.

Gauff was the top seed at the 2025 Canadian Open singles event and began her campaign in the second round after receiving a bye in the first round. She defeated Danielle Collins and Veronika Kudermetova in the second and third rounds, respectively, before falling to Mboko in the fourth round.
Where Will Coco Gauff Compete Next?
Following the conclusion of her campaign at the 2025 Canadian Open, Gauff will next compete at the 2025 Cincinnati Open. The tournament is scheduled from Aug. 7 to Aug. 18, 2025, at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason, Ohio.
Gauff’s best result at this WTA 1000 tournament came in 2023 when she claimed the title. En route to the final, she defeated players such as Mayar Sherif, Linda Nosková, Jasmine Paolini, and Iga Świątek. In the championship match, the World No. 2 secured her first WTA 1000 title by triumphing over Karolína Muchová 6-3, 6-4.
This year, Gauff is seeded second at the Cincinnati Open and will commence her campaign in the second round after receiving a first-round bye. She is set to face the winner of the first-round match between Wang Xinyu and Emiliana Arango.
Gauff and Wang have met twice on the WTA Tour, with each player having secured one victory. Their most recent encounter was in the second round of the 2025 Berlin Tennis Open, where the Chinese emerged victorious with a scoreline of 6-3, 6-3. Wang subsequently finished as the runner-up after losing to Markéta Vondroušová in the final.
On the other hand, Gauff has never faced Arango on the WTA Tour, and their potential second-round match in Cincinnati will mark the first time these two players will go up against one another.
The winner of the second-round match between Gauff and either Wang or Arango at the 2025 Cincinnati Open will advance to face either 32nd seed Dayana Yastremska, Ann Li, or qualifier Viktoriya Tomova in the third round.
