LAKE GENEVA (WLUK) — An African stork that has been flying around Wisconsin landed at its new digs in Lake Geneva.

Since earlier this month, there have been multiple sightings of a marabou stork seen from Sheboygan and Fond du Lac to Green Bay.

Late Thursday, the stork was finally captured by Jay Christie, owner and founder of Safari Lake Geneva, in Lake Geneva.

“She surrendered without any resistance,” Christie wrote. “She immediately settled into our quarantine facilities and is already a staff favorite. She is remarkably tame, by stork standards.”

Safari Lake Geneva, Wisconsin and Chicagoland’s only conservation park, says it would have been unlikely the stork would have survived another month on the lam, given the number of reported near collisions with vehicular traffic. The stork also would not have survived a Wisconsin winter.

It’s still a mystery where the stork came from and how it ended up in Wisconsin.
