David Muir has once again been forced to interrupt his ABC show for a breaking news update.
The TV anchor announced a tragic shooting which left five soldiers in hospital. On his World News Tonight show, David told viewers that a soldier had been arrested for allegedly opening fire at his colleagues in Fort Stewart, Georgia. Army sergeant Quornelius Radford, 28, was said to have used his own handgun for the attack, not an Army-issued firearm.
Five soldiers were injured and subsequently hospitalized following the shooting, but they are not thought to be in a critical condition. Two of the injured were taken to a hospital in Savannah by ambulance with a police escort, with three of the five victims needing surgery.

During the attack, the base was placed on lockdown by its commander with reports saying fellow soldiers were seen running for cover. Shots were fired shortly before 11 a.m. on August 6, with authorities still being present at the scene during David’s broadcast.

David also reported that the alleged assailant’s coworkers pinned him down, but added that questions remain as to how Radford got his personal weapon on the base. A video has been posted on TikTok of the incident which shows numerous soldiers running for safety after the attacker opened fire at the Fort Stewart base.
Emergency calls were played on David’s broadcast with one person being heard saying, “They have an active shooter on Fort Stewart.”
Brig. Gen John Lubas spoke to the media about the attack, commending the base’s bravery, “I know that the soldiers in the area that witnessed the shooting immediately and without hesitation tackled the soldier, subdued him, and allowed law enforcement to then take him into custody. These soldiers, without a doubt, prevented further casualties.”

However, according to Faith Abubey, an ABC correspondent covering the story, authorities have just found out that Radford was recently arrested off-base for a DUI. His chain of command was not thought to be aware of this.
On the other hand, Radford is said to have had no disciplinary record within the military and according to investigators, he continues to be interrogated and in custody.
Since news of the shooting broke, President Donald Trump has responded to the attack, saying, “The entire nation is praying for the victims and their families, and hopefully they’ll fully recover.” He added that he hopes the alleged attacker is prosecuted with the full strength of the law. All five of those injured have been reported to be in a stable condition and are expected to recover.
