Chelsea are yet to sign Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig as the club turn their attention to outgoings.

On Wednesday, Chelsea confirmed the departures of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Lesley Ugochukwu to Everton and Burnley respectively.

More players are also set to follow the duo out of the exit door this summer, including Raheem Sterling. Former Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor can only see Sterling leaving on loan, though.

The Blues, however, still want to make new signings as they continue to target Simons and Manchester United star Alejandro Garnacho.

Simons is not a Chelsea player yet and there is no guarantee that he will be by the end of the transfer window.

One insider close to the deal, though, has told journalist Bobby Vincent that there is nothing for Chelsea fans to worry about despite it not necessarily being an easy transfer.

Unfortunately not too much in the way of a Xavi Simons update but there is still an expectation/confidence the deal will be completed eventually.

Asked an insider close to the deal about why it is such a ‘slow burner’ and they replied: “It’s not always easy, but it is nothing… pic.twitter.com/w6LBTS4Le9

There could be some good news for supporters in the coming days. Another journalist, Orazio Accomando, has claimed that Chelsea have actually agreed a fee with Leipzig now to sign Simons.

If true and the Club World Cup winners do go on to land the 22-year-old, then he could come in and provide competition for Cole Palmer in the No.10 position.

Simons is an attacking midfielder, though the Dutchman can also play on the left, where he was often used last season.

In Simons, Chelsea could be getting a “difference-maker”, which is how ex-Leipzig manager Marco Rose once described him after one game.

“We know that Xavi is a difference-maker,” Rose was quoted as saying by SABC Sport following Leipzig’s 4-2 win against Werder Bremen last season. “I said to him right after the game: ‘Great job’. And I don’t mean today’s game, but the way he came back from his injury.

“The way he worked after his injury and the way he came back, it’s extraordinary after three months.”

Simons scored a brace that day, with both of his goals coming in the first half.

Chelsea already have an exciting attack, but it could become an even more thrilling one if they manage to land Simons. His arrival could spell the end of Christopher Nkunku, though.
