OREGON – Oregon Residents now have access to recycle their mattresses for free. Thanks to a new Oregon state law, called the Oregon Mattress Stewardship Act, the Mattress Recycling program is allowed to operate in Oregon.
“ Before this program, mattresses were commonly being landfilled or burned at local incinerator, to the tune of at least 600 mattresses per calendar day around the state,” said Mike O’Donnell, the Chief Operating Officer of MRC.
“The legislature passed this law in 2022 to stop that practice. We know that mattresses can be recycled. We’ve already demonstrated that. And we’re thrilled to be bringing it to Oregon. “
The MRC is a non-profit organization that operates recycling programs in states that have passed mattress recycling laws. And thanks to the Oregon Mattress Stewardship Act, Oregonians can now recycle their mattresses for free.
The program is funded through a $22.50 fee that is collected when a mattress or box spring is purchased in Oregon. The fee is used to establish free drop-off locations and collection events throughout the state.
The MRC statewide Bye Bye Mattress program currently operates in California, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and now Oregon.
Bye Bye Mattress collection sites are located around the state, and are now accepting mattresses and box springs from the public for free. Southern Oregon locations include:
