In the same earnings call, Tao stated Sony expects Marathon to release by the end of this fiscal year, which finishes at the start of April 2026. “But, having said that, this is not a commitment. No official announcement has been given yet.”

Tao explained that “modifications [are] in development” and the intention is to communicate a new release date in the Autumn. The Sony CFO was also asked if she thinks Marathon could be cancelled altogether. “We are now fixing the problems, so we believe this launch will happen. If this launch is cancelled we’d need to do the revision of the valuation, however as of now this is not expected,” Tao responded.

Marathon was originally scheduled to launch for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on 23rd September 2025, but was then delayed. Without mentioning the controversies surrounding the stolen artwork, Bungie said the extra development time will allow it to “craft Marathon into the game that truly reflects your passion”.
