An innocent bystander was killed in a shooting in Over-the-Rhine Wednesday, officials confirmed. It happened on Green Street, near Vine Street around 9:15 p.m. It’s the second deadly shooting to take place in that area in 24 hours. Police say a woman was shot in the back. She was found in the 1600 block of Republic Street. CPD says the woman was transported to UC Medical Center, where she later died.Officers have identified her as Chrishonda Ciera Wynn, 34. Officials say the gunman fired 15 rounds from a vehicle on Green Street then got away. According to police, the woman is not believed to be the target of the shooting, saying she was walking on Vine Street and turned onto Green Street when she was shot in the back. Sergeant Phil Buccino says the pattern of violence seen in the city of Cincinnati as of late is frustrating.”It was somebody just freely firing a gun down the street and it hit her. Unacceptable,” he said. “I mean, we’re working as hard as we can. We’re on the streets. We’re just trying to work as hard as we can and this is just sad, very sad for the city of Cincinnati.”Police say they are speaking with one witness. Officers say while they do not have a suspect, they do not believe there’s an ongoing threat to the public.”I truly believe our city is safe, we just have some people that just don’t abide by the law. And absolutely shooting a gun down a public street, 15-20 rounds, somebody might innocently get hurt, just like tonight. And I find that unfair to the citizens of Cincinnati, to us as police officers, that we have to respond to this,” Buccino said. This story was curated by Hearst’s WLWT Alert Desk.
