Lyft driver has been blocked after attempting to charge riders a $75 damage fee using what appeared to be an AI-generated image showing a fake mess inside the vehicle.
According to reports, Bert Gor said the incident happened after his two teenage daughters, ages 14 and 15, used Lyft following a trip to the beach on May 16.
The driver allegedly submitted photos to Lyft claiming the teens left a mess in the backseat, which included spilled drinks, fries, and a large yellow stain across the seats.

Gor said his daughters denied causing any damage.
“They didn’t have food or drinks in the car,” he told WVSN. “These girls were coming back from the beach.”
After disputing the charge with Lyft, Gor requested the photos that were submitted by the driver. When he showed them to one of his daughters, she immediately noticed something unusual.

“She goes, ‘Dad, that’s AI. You could see the Gemini logo on the bottom right-hand side of one of the photos,’” Gor told WVSN.

Gemini is Google’s AI platform, which includes image generation tools capable of creating realistic fake images.
“And I’m like, ‘Oh, my God, you’re right,’ ” Gor continued. “So, I tell [Lyft], I said, ‘Hey, you know, matter of fact, these photos are AI-generated.’ ”
According to Gor, Lyft later agreed that the images appeared to be AI-generated, apologized for the incident, reimbursed the fee, and blocked the driver from using the app.
In a statement shared with WESH, Lyft said it “takes damage disputes seriously and reviews each matter based on the available information.”

“We have reviewed the rider’s concerns, offered reimbursement, unpaired the rider and driver, and addressed the matter directly with the driver,” the company added.
Gor warned other rideshare users to pay close attention to additional charges added after trips.
“If you’re not paying attention to this and, you know, you’re getting charged $75, I mean, you know, it can really add up,” he said. “So you’ve really got to pay attention.”

Lyfy isn’t the only company that has had to deal with AI drama lately. Earlier in May, DoorDash responded after a TikToker bragged about using ChatGPT to make their food look bad and get a refund.
