Mikel Arteta has expressed his jubilation and relief at Arsenal finally being crowned Premier League champions, after their 22-year wait for a title came to an end this week.
Arsenal were officially confirmed as champions after Manchester City’s 1-1 draw with Bournemouth on Tuesday night. Videos emerged in the moments after the full-time whistle showing Arsenal players celebrating together at the club’s training ground in joyous scenes.
Arteta has revealed that the plan was for him to be with the players, but that changed at the last minute. He instead watched the game from home, but doesn’t regret the change in plan.

Speaking ahead of the Gunners’ final league game of the season away to Crystal Palace on Sunday, where they will lift the trophy, the boss said: “You don’t realise it probably. It is one of the best feelings I have ever had.
“I was supposed to be with the players, but 20 minutes before the game I had to leave. I couldn’t bring the energy.
“I went home started to build some fire, heard some noises in the living room and the magic happened.”
He added: “And after watching the videos, I am glad I did it that way. The staff was all over the place.”

Arteta has also revealed that he has spoken to Bournemouth boss and friend Andoni Iraola.
“I called him yesterday, to congratulate him on the incredible job with Bournemouth.
“To say you nearly took it away from us and then you gave it to us.”
After picking up the Premier League trophy on Sunday, attention for Arsenal will turn to the Champions League final. The Gunners take on Paris Saint-Germain at the Puskas Arena with kick-off at 5pm.
