Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever escaped Friday night with a huge 90-82 win over the Golden State Valkyries, but the game nearly spiraled into complete chaos along the way. The matchup quickly turned physical, emotional, and increasingly tense as the night progressed. Clark found herself in the middle of several heated moments throughout the contest, including an exchange with Golden State forward Janelle Salaun near halftime that eventually led to a technical foul.

The surprising part? Clark apparently had no idea she had even been called for one. Following the game, Clark was asked about the technical during her postgame media session, and her immediate reaction quickly grabbed attention online.

“Did I get a technical?” Clark said with visible surprise before reporters confirmed the call. “Oh no way. Oh, it just makes sense considering the rest of the night, so I’m not surprised. Wow, I could’ve gotten ejected, I guess I should’ve been more careful.”

Despite all the chaos surrounding her, Clark still delivered another massive performance for Indiana. The Fever star finished with 22 points, nine assists, two rebounds, one steal, and one block while helping Indiana improve to 4-2 on the season. Aliyah Boston also dominated with 20 points and 16 rebounds as the Fever continued building momentum early in the year.

Clark later joked that the officiating-heavy night would likely cost her financially as well.

“Well, I guess I have some fines coming my way. And a flagrant, wow,” Clark said afterward.

Under current WNBA rules, Clark’s technical foul and Flagrant 1 could reportedly lead to a combined $1,000 in fines.
