A bobcat was also spotted near the same area two weeks ago.
CENTENNIAL, Colo. — A mountain lion prowled across what appears to be the back deck of a home in Centennial, home surveillance video shows.
A 9NEWS viewer submitted the Ring video Saturday. It shows the creature strolling beneath backyard lighting and sauntering up the stairs, glancing briefly toward the home before it continues across the deck.
Colorado Parks and Wildlife confirmed officers relocated a young adult male lion from the area Saturday afternoon.
Because the mountain lion was in poor lion habitat and wasn’t moving along on his own, wildlife officers decided to relocate him, a CPW spokesperson said. Officers tranquilized the mountain lion and released it into better mountain lion habitat in a remote area, the spokesperson said.
Mountain lions, also known as cougars, panthers, and pumas, “are a crucial part of the state’s ecosystem,” CPW said. There are an estimated 3,800-4,400 living throughout Colorado.
Residents should try to avoid attracting the powerful predators to their home, the wildlife agency said. Deer are mountain lion’s main food source, so keep them away from your home.
It’s also a good idea to keep pets on a leash when taking them outside, be extra vigilant during mornings and evenings and eliminate hiding places like bushes and tall grassy areas from your home.
A bobcat was also spotted near the same area two weeks ago, 9NEWS previously reported. Mountain lions are much larger than lynx or bobcats and have a long tail measuring one-third of their length, CPW said.
