Hopefully, you had a better holiday than did Montreal Canadiens defenseman Lane Hutson, who took the blame for his costly turnover that led to the Carolina Hurricanes’ game winning goal in Game 3. In the Daily, the Pittsburgh Penguins have more options with their rebuild, there’s a sweeping rumor that the Nashville Predators will try to poach Colorado Avalanche GM Chris MacFarland, Max Domi had offseason surgery but complications have put his career on hold, and the New Jersey Devils could trawl the same targets as the Penguins on the NHL trade market.

I’d love to write a clever or interesting foreward to today’s Daily, maybe a good roadie or meal from Monday. But nope. I am happy to report that my life has become boring, and I’m here for it, but there is some important business that many of you should know.

To PHN+ subscribers, there are more changes coming. It looks like for the much better! The folks who did the new platform heard you, both those of you who complained and those of you who voted with your feet. It has hurt to watch so many original and longtime subs say goodbye, but I understood. It wasn’t a good user experience, and many of you struggled with logging into a third-party platform just to come back to PHN, expecting the ease of an integrated solution. I’d like to tell you I’m in complete control of the situation, but as part of our merger last year, I gave up the business control so I could focus on hockey and my colleagues. It’s been a tough year, we’re all figuring out how to navigate these waters, so hopefully things will click. Instead of this platform by an external company who basically sold our folks on an idea and a package they couldn’t deliver, our people built a new platform from scratch.

And to the many of you who dropped your PHN+ subscription, when this is all settled, I will do my best to earn back your participation. Sincerely.

Pittsburgh Penguins

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: One thing that the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins’ playoff run is showing both to us and the organization–they will have options. There are more prospects taking that final step. More “kids” stepping up who probably deserve a real shot at an NHL roster spot. So, will Penguins GM Kyle Dubas alter the rebuild?

If you’re just catching up from the holiday weekend–we also delivered some hotly debated grades for the Penguins’ goaltending and how they, too, will affect the Penguins future.

Pittsburgh Baseball Now: Henry Davis. The ball just carried. And carried. The Buccos’ embattled catcher went yard, and the Pittsburgh Pirates won.

NHL Trade Talk, News, & National Hockey Now

NHLtraderumors.me: If true and if it happens, this would send some shockwaves across the league. Are the Nashville Predators laying in wait to snatch Avalanche GM Chris MacFarland? There are growing and credible rumors that is indeed the case.

Montreal Hockey Now: A rough night. Another defensive struggle that suffocated the Montreal Canadiens. Carolina got the winner in OT, and Marc Dumont has the scoop–what can they do?! Here’s the Canadiens analysis.

TSN: Oh, Lane Hutson. Such a brilliant year and a playoff run, but the dynamic defenseman coughed up the puck, and it was in the back of his net. After the game, Hutson owned his mistake.

Taking the blame in Montreal isn’t an easy chore, so credit to the kid for standing up and facing the media. I’ve known many who would not have done so.

New Jersey Hockey Now: James Nichols list of potential New Jersey Devils’ trades targets similar to my list of Penguins trade targets, and that is because the Devils are in a similar spot with a similarly minded GM. Take a look at the potentials Devils trades.

Sportsnet: Mitch Marner has been the man in Vegas. He posted another extraordinary regular season, but he’s been more than a point-per-game player in the playoffs. Marner is destroying the narrative that he couldn’t come through in the playoffs.
