August marks the 90th anniversary of The Social Security Act

Social Security has helped generations retire with dignity after a lifetime of hard work. Social Security
lifts 278,000 Minnesotans out of poverty every year. Without Social Security, nearly 35% of people over
65 in Minnesota would live in poverty. With Social Security, the poverty rate is 6.7%. For more than
424,000 Minnesotans, Social Security is their primary source of income. Social Security contributes
$24.3 billion to Minnesota’s economy every year.
