Wrexham have enjoyed success in the transfer window this summer, but some rumoured targets have ended up elsewhere in the Championship.

Phil Parkinson has secured eight summer signings, with Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds backing the Wrexham boss handsomely.

Wrexham’s transfer record has been broken twice this summer, and that is without even factoring in seven-figure deals for George Thomason, Conor Coady and Kieffer Moore.

Some targets have slipped away, though it’s unclear just how strongly Wrexham really pursued those deals.

Callum Brittain was linked with Wrexham earlier in the summer window, but he has now completed a move to Middlesbrough.

Michael Smith signed for Preston North End, finally bringing the seemingly never-ending links to Wrexham to a conclusion.

PNE appear to have won the race for another Wrexham target, with Tottenham Hotspur’s Alfie Devine on his way to Deepdale.

The Lancashire Post report that Wrexham had shown an interest in signing Devine, alongside Championship rivals Millwall.

However, North End are on the verge of signing Devine on loan for the season, bolstering Paul Heckingbottom’s side.

PNE narrowly avoided relegation to League One on the final day of last season and are looking to avoid a similar fate this season.

Devine will now join as an attacking midfield threat and is coming off the back of an impressive loan spell with Belgian side Westerlo.

The 21-year-old previously came up in the Wigan Athletic youth ranks and joined Tottenham back in the summer of 2020.

Now ready for another loan move, Devine will face Wrexham twice in December as a PNE player.

Wrexham could explore loans late in the window

The report claims that PNE are likely to have an option to buy Devine, though the agreed price could actually be out of their price range.

Wrexham may just keep tabs on Devine’s progress, with Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds allowing for greater spending power at the STōK Cae Ras.

It’s unclear whether Wrexham also wanted Devine on loan, but this is an avenue Parkinson could explore.

Wolves talent Pedro Lima has been linked with Wrexham, with the Brazilian available on loan this summer.

Liverpool’s Lewis Koumas is also a loan target for Wrexham as the Reds look to give the Welshman more first-team action.

Premier League clubs are starting to loan players out to EFL at this late stage in the window, and Parkinson has admitted being open to loan deals this summer.

Wrexham don’t often shop in the loan market, but this could be something to keep an eye on in the coming weeks.
