WESTMORELAND, N.Y. — A raccoon has tested positive for rabies in Westmoreland.
According to the Oneida County Health Department, the raccoon was sent to the New York State Department of Health Wadsworth Center for testing on May 27, and positive results were reported on May 28.
No humans were exposed, but a dog that was exposed received a rabies booster vaccination.
The department does not release information on where the raccoon was found.
Signs of rabies include animals acting strangely, acting mad or shy, getting unusually close or drooling or foaming from the mouth.
If you see a wild or stray animal with these signs, do not approach it and stay away.
If any animal is acting strangely, call your local animal control officer for help.
