(WJAR) — Gov. Dan McKee issued a statewide drought advisory on Thursday.
The governor’s office said it was recommended by the state’s Drought Steering Committee after months of precipitation deficits and dry conditions.
“While our water supply is designed to withstand some level of drought, Rhode Islanders should be aware of the current conditions,” said Governor McKee. “As a precaution, I encourage residents and businesses to consider taking water conservation measures.”
The U.S. Drought Monitor map shows Rhode Island to be in a moderate drought.
The state suggests residents and businesses conserve water.
That can be by hand watering flowers, fixing leaks, and using washing machines efficiently.
The state says conservation measures are not yet necessary.
