A Massachusetts town issued a warning to pet owners on Friday, saying they have been seeing an increase in wild animals displaying “neurological symptoms.”
North Quabbin Regional Animal Control issued a press relase saying they have been noticing animals acting strangely in the downtown, Pinedale and Pequoig areas of Athol.
“If you see one of these animals displaying neurological symptoms including: falling over, stumbling, circling, not paying attention or noticing humans, or seizure like symptoms, please call the Athol non-emergency police line at 978-249-3232,” animal control said.
They said they are currently in contact with several state agencies to determine the cause of the illness.
“While we do not feel there is a need to panic, please be cautious when allowing pets outside and please do not leave them outside unattended,” animal control added. “Please also make sure your animals are up to date on their rabies and distemper vaccines as well!”
Athol, with about 12,000 residents, is located in Worcester County not far from the New Hampshire border and about 25 miles west of Fitchburg.
