The biggest free-agent addition the New York Giants made to their defense this offseason was linebacker Tremaine Edmunds, signed to replace Bobby Okereke as the team’s MIKE linebacker. Scott Bair of SB Nation’s Hogs Haven, covering the Washington Commanders, told the ‘Valentine’s Views’ podcast that Edmunds “could really be beneficial to the Giants.”
Bair is the new head honcho at Hogs Haven, but spent the previous two seasons covering the Chicago Bears for the Marquee Sports Network. Edmunds, entering his ninth NFL season, spent the last three years with the Bears.
“He is all of 6-6, man. He is huge and long and really smart,” Bair said.
“He’s a really good MIKE linebacker, quick processor. A guy that I think can blitz. And, even though he’s a big dude he can he can swallow tight ends. I think that was a really interesting addition. I think that’s going to be a guy that’s going to serve the Giants defense well, especially when he’s paired with a young player. Could be a really dynamic setting there.”
Edmunds, 28, is paired with Arvell Reese, the No. 5 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. Edmunds is listed at 6-foot-4, 251 pounds though Bair says he is bigger than that. Reese is listed at 6-4, 243. The Giants are hoping that duo will help fortify their run defense and clog passing lanes in the middle of the field.
Bair referred to Edmunds as a “good individual.”
“I don’t think the Bears wanted to part with him, but it was a finance thing. He does make a lot of money,” Bair said. “But, he is so long that and he gets to balls that a lot of guys aren’t going to get to because not only is he 6-6, but he’s got a massive wingspan … a guy that’s been to the puppet show and seen the strings, a guy who gets it, and who could really be beneficial to that defense.”
Bair was on the show to discuss Washington’s offseason. Here some of the highlights:
