RAF 9 continued the promotion’s momentum Saturday with a slate of notable names sprinkled throughout the card in Dallas. In the main event, Olympic gold medalist Gable Steveson made his successful debut on the RAF mats, scoring a 10-0 tech fall over UFC and PFL veteran Alexandr Romanov.
Steveson, a two-time NCAA champion, recently signed with the UFC and is widely considered the top heavyweight prospect in all of MMA. Having smashed through his combat sports competition thus far, Steveson returned to his roots and made light work of Romanov. Steveson controlled the mat for as long as it lasted; a mid-match injury hindered Romanov and nearly halted the action, but the outcome was all but inevitable.
Colby Covington returned in the night’s co-main event to welcome newly minted UFC Hall of Famer Chris Weidman to the RAF mats.

The 200-pound catchweight matchup was much more competitive than some may have expected. Weidman took the early lead, and the score was 4-4 until Covington capitalized late to sneak away with the decision win at 5-4.
After the match, RAF announced Covington’s next target: He’ll return against Arman Tsarukyan at RAF 11 on July 18 in Milwaukee. Tsarukyan picked up a 16-5 tech fall win against Keelon Jimison in the opening match of the night. Both men extended their win streaks, leaving someone set to taste defeat for the first time in RAF.
Former UFC bantamweight champion Merab Dvalishvili also topped former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar on the card. “The Machine” spoiled Edgar’s return to competition, winning a 12-1 tech fall. RAF gave the matchup “Match of the Night” honors.

In the lone title tilts of the night, Kyle Snyder and Real Woods walked away with gold. Snyder shut out Givi Matcharashvili via 10-0 tech fall to defend his light heavyweight belt, while Woods scored the only pinfall of the night, defeating Ibragim Ilyasov to capture the vacant featherweight title.
