Kelsey Mitchell Now Has 3rd-Most Assists in Indiana Fever History

After winning three straight games, the Indiana Fever have now lost back-to-back contests against the Golden State Valkyries and Portland Fire, dropping them to 4-4 on the season.

On Saturday against the Fire, the Fever lost in blowout fashion, 100-84. Caitlin Clark struggled in the showdown, finishing with six points on 1-of-6 shooting, along with six assists.

Aliyah Boston and Kelsey Mitchell led the Fever in scoring, with the former scoring 18 points and the latter adding 17.

While it was a disappointing overall showing from Indiana, it wasn’t without positives. Mitchell, in particular, made franchise history during the game. She recorded four assists against the Fire, which allowed her to move up the Fever’s all-time assists list.

Mitchell entered the game with 815 career assists, needing just one to surpass Erica Wheeler for No. 3 in the record books. She now has 819 career assists following the loss to Portland.

“Congrats to Kelsey Mitchell on moving into 3rd all-time in franchise history in assists,” the Fever posted, along with a graphic showing the veteran guard’s achievement.

Mitchell is now trailing only Tamika Catchings (1,488 assists) and Briann January (909 assists) on the Fever leaderboard. However, it might take some time before she catches up to them.

The 30-year-old Mitchell is averaging 2.5 assists per game this 2026 season. That being said, she’s on track to just add about 90 more assists to her tally. That means she could tie or surpass January by the end of the regular season.

As for Catchings, Mitchell will need several more years to break her record, especially considering that the most assists she has recorded in a single season is 150, which was last year when Clark was injured and out.
