UPDATE: U.S. 51 is closed as a result of the train derailment for an estimated 12 hours, according to KYTC District 1.
HICKMAN COUNTY, Ky. — After a loud noise was reportedly heard across multiple counties in southwestern Kentucky, The Graves County Sheriff’s Office said it was investigating a potential train derailment in Hickman County that may have been the cause.
Sheriff Jon Hayden and Justin Jackson with Hickman County EMA both confirmed that a train had been derailed in Hickman County. The derailment happened near the Arlington Community in Carlisle County, according to GCSO.

Jackson said that officials arrived on scene roughly 30 minutes ago and that they were still working to gain access and evaluate the area.
Sheriff Jon Hayden said that the derailment scene may consist of potential hazardous materials. Residents are advised to steer clear of the scene and shelter in place until further notice
HWY U.S. 51 North between KY 288 and KY 80 is currently closed as a result. The road is expected to be closed for 12 hours, according to KYTC.
