Baptist Memorial to take over Merit Health Rankin

The Rankin County Board of Supervisors has unanimously approved an agreement to transfer operations of Merit Health Rankin to Baptist Memorial Health Care later this year.The agreement will transfer the lease and operations of Merit Health Rankin from Community Health Systems to Baptist Memorial Health Care. As part of the deal, Baptist Memorial Health Care has committed to investing $70 million into the hospital, its facilities, and services. The health care system has also agreed to offer employment to all active Merit Health Rankin employees who are in good standing. “As a not-for-profit health care organization, our mission mirrors a three-fold ministry of Christ healing, teaching, and preaching. We’ve been doing that for over 114 years in communities all across Mississippi. It’s what’s made us Mississippi’s largest health care system,” said Jason Little, Baptist Memorial Health Care president and CEO.County leaders said this agreement secures the future of local health care while bringing millions of dollars in new investment to Rankin County. Local leaders also said the partnership will help ensure residents continue to have access to quality health care as Rankin County continues to grow. The hospital transfer is expected to be completed later this year.
