Robert Pattinson is addressing the online chatter about his superhero frame after viewers found his look in 2022’s The Batman underwhelming. In a recent chat with GQ, the star revealed he built a home gym to prepare for the sequel, The Batman: Part II. Pattinson directly confronted body-shamers who assumed he shirked his athletic duties. “[Everyone was like], ‘You didn’t work out at all.’ I worked out every f—ing day,” Pattinson shared, explaining that his training blocks were intense. “Even after that, I still look like I didn’t work out. I worked out twice a day at, like, three o’clock in the morning. I’m like, It’s just because I said it in an interview [once that exercise was uncool]. I was trying to sound cool!”
The actor blamed the negative feedback on his sarcastic humor during previous press runs, which caused audiences to think he wasn’t taking the Caped Crusader role seriously. Back during the 2020 pandemic isolation, he had jokingly told reporters he was barely doing anything to stay fit. On social media, fans remain split over his appearance. Over on Reddit, one observer noted, “He likes to be sarcastic and cheeky in interviews and for some reason people take it all very literally.” However, another user jokingly added, “Batman turned down Bane’s venom Robert turns down the tren.”

Beyond his fitness struggles, the actor is also gearing up for a grueling schedule. The upcoming sequel begins filming in the United Kingdom this month, but Pattinson discovered the shoot’s massive scope from a stunt performer rather than from an official document. “I just heard from the stunt guy the other day. He said, ‘Ooh, 11 weeks of nights.’ I’m like, ‘Excuse me?’ I’m like, ‘No one’s even sent me a schedule,’” Pattinson revealed to GQ. This means the cast will endure nearly three months of overnight filming to capture the gloomy aesthetic created by director Matt Reeves. On X, one fan reacted, typing, “you mean the film is gonna be even darker than the first? because I hardly remember a single daytime scene in it.”
Punishing schedules are nothing new to the star, who just wrapped Christopher Nolan‘s project The Odyssey, branding it one of the most exhausting sets of his life. Filming alongside Anne Hathaway and Tom Holland in Sicily required climbing a 900-foot path daily. Nolan recalled the location, stating, “In the middle of our shoot, we had a location for two weeks where the crew had to start at the bottom of this path at call, go 900 feet up in the air, at whatever pace they could manage.”
Now, he is focusing his energy back on Gotham alongside new cast additions Sebastian Stan and Scarlett Johansson. Production will take place near Leavesden studios, giving Pattinson a nostalgic reunion with the lot where he once played Cedric Diggory in the Harry Potter films. While fans must wait until October 1, 2027, to see the final movie hit theaters, it is clear Pattinson is ready to take some big swings.
