WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. — The NASCAR Xfinity Series’ switch to the CW Network in February has been met with enthusiasm from fans, who are tuning in at record numbers. Since the move, the series has averaged around a million viewers per race, with fans at Watkins Glen praising the network’s coverage.
Scott Wank, attending Watkins Glen for the fifth year, said, “The race has been good. I mean, it’s good coverage. I got some good folks on there. It’s entertainment.”
Reigning NASCAR Xfinity Series Champion Justin Allgaier highlighted the benefits of the partnership with the CW.
I think the other part of it is having a broadcast partner whose main focus is the Xfinity series. You know, that’s a big investment for them. They’ve put a lot of time and energy into making sure that our series is successful,” said Allgaier.
Connor Zilisch, an 18-year-old rising star in the series and current points leader, noted the opportunities the CW provides for drivers.
“The CW has done an awesome job, not only putting on a great broadcast, but we’re really showcasing all the drivers and their personalities and giving fans more of their background,” said Zilisch.
Fans appreciate the consistency of the broadcasts. Walter Sutton, a Watkins Glen race day attendee for 13 years, said, “I really like that they’re on the CW, I don’t have to channel surf and try and figure out what week is going to be where they’re streaming.
He added, “Being able to just turn on regular TV and the CW comes with almost any live package that you get. So, it’s nice just to click one button and it’s pretty much there all the time.”
Terry Sharpe, attending Watkins Glen for the 40th consecutive year, praised the network’s coverage.
“They’re one of the best broadcast avenues that I’ve seen. The races I’ve seen are very well covered,” said Sharpe.
Fans also expressed appreciation for how the CW has elevated the Xfinity Series, making it feel like the most important sport on their network with quality and dedication to each broadcast.
