Victor Wembanyama‘s San Antonio Spurs vs. Jalen Brunson‘s New York Knicks NBA Finals matchup was an event that many fans had waited for. However, one fan took it to the next level and crashed into the court during the game on Wednesday.
The incident happened with 6:28 remaining in the fourth quarter of Game 1. A fan ran from the stands and into the court to get a selfie with Wembanyama. Security quickly grabbed him and dragged him away from the game. Due to what happened, the game had to be stopped for a while.

After the Spurs’ 105-95 defeat, Wembanyama was asked about his experience of a fan running onto the court.
Many people were curious to know if it was Victor Wembanyama’s first time experiencing something like that. When it happened, fans saw Wembanyama smiling at the situation as security dragged the fan out of the court.
“I’ve never been in that situation,” Wembanyama said. “I didn’t know how to act. It really surprised me almost as much as that time where a bat crashed the court.”
Vicotr Wembanyama referred to what happened with the Spurs in 2009 during Halloween against the Sacramento Kings. NBA legend Manu Ginobili swatted a bat that was flying inside the arena with his hand. Since he took out the bat with his hand, he had to be vaccinated against rabies.

The Spurs’ mascot, The Coyote, put on a Batman costume when the bat incident happened and tried to catch the creature with a giant net.
Spurs head coach Mitch Johnson was asked about his thoughts on the fan crashing the court. He did not think much of it and brushed it off.
“I don’t think it was an event at all,” he said. “I thought security got him out of there. I think everybody moved on to the next play.”

Victor Wembanyama doesn’t think that it should be right for the Spurs to panic after losing the first game of the series. Some fans expected them to win the game, but they came up short, and they started to overreact.
“We’ve been down in a series before, never in the Finals, obviously, but I’m not kicking myself about anything really. I mean, I’m not worried the slightest,” he said.
The Spurs are down 1-0 in the series, while the Knicks have kept their postseason win streak alive. Wembanyama remains composed and knows that a team needs to win four games to win the best-of-seven series.
