1 dead, 1 critically injured in shooting at Birmingham extended-stay hotel
WVTM 13 IS STAYING ON TOP OF BREAKING NEWS OUT OF THE OXMOOR AREA OF BIRMINGHAM, WHERE POLICE CONFIRMED THEY ARE INVESTIGATING A DEADLY SHOOTING AT AN EXTENDED STAY HOTEL. ERIN LLEWELLYN HAS BEEN LIVE ON THE SCENE. AND ERIN, YOU JUST TALKED WITH POLICE. DO WE KNOW HOW MANY PEOPLE WERE SHOT AT THIS POINT? YEAH, MICHAEL, JUST A FEW MOMENTS AGO, WE HEARD FROM OFFICER FREEMAN HERE ON SCENE WITH THE BIRMINGHAM POLICE DEPARTMENT, AND HE TELLS US THAT TWO PEOPLE WERE SHOT IN THIS SHOOTING, AND ONE OF THEM IS NOW DEAD. HE TELLS US THAT THIS IS THE CITY’S 20TH SHOOTING. I WANT TO STEP OUT THE WAY SO WE CAN STILL GIVE YOU AN ACTIVE LOOK AT THIS SCENE RIGHT NOW. SO WHAT WE KNOW IS THAT AGAIN, ONE MAN IS DEAD AFTER THE SHOOTING AND THE OTHER IS IN CRITICAL CONDITION AT UAB. NOW, ONE OF THOSE MEN IS A SUSPECT. NOW THIS CALL CAME OUT JUST AFTER 4 P.M. THE INCIDENT HAPPENED IN THE DOORWAY OF ONE OF THE UNITS HERE AT INTOWN SUITES HERE OFF OF LAKESHORE PARKWAY. NOW, IT’S UNKNOWN IF THEY WERE RESIDENTS HERE, AND DETECTIVES SAY THAT THEY ARE STILL TRYING TO GATHER MORE INFORMATION AND TALK TO PEOPLE IN THE AREA TO FIGURE OUT WHAT THEY KNOW. BUT WE DO KNOW IS THAT THESE TWO MEN DID KNOW EACH OTHER, AND THEY BOTH SHOT AT EACH OTHER, AND ONE OF THEM IS DEAD BECAUSE OF THOSE DEADLY SHOTS THAT WERE FIRED. SO WE ARE WORKING TO GET MORE INFORMATION. IT SEEMS LIKE OFFICERS OUT HERE ARE STILL PUTTING UP CRIME SCENE TAPE. THEY ARE STILL INVESTIGATING, GOING, GOING DOOR TO DOOR TO ASK PEOPLE IN THE AREA QUESTIONS AND STILL TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT LED UP TO THESE SHOTS BEING FIRED.
