According to Sportsnet reporter Ben Nicholson-Smith, Clement also emphasized confidence in the group’s direction, saying the team believes it can reach a higher level as the season continues.
Toronto improved to 19-7 when scoring at least five runs this season. The turning point came in the sixth inning when Valenzuela hit into what looked like a double play, but an umpire ruled him safe at first. Clement then avoided a tag attempt from Henderson, who threw to first instead of completing the double play.

Orioles players and manager Craig Albernaz strongly protested the call, arguing that Clement left the baseline during the play. Pete Alonso reacted in frustration and threw a ball into foul territory during the dispute.
The call stood after review, and the Blue Jays used the moment to break the game open. They scored five runs after the controversial play and turned a close game into a 6-4 lead that held until the end. The Blue Jays improved their record to 32-34 with the win.
