PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU) — Portland’s professional women’s basketball team, the Portland Fire, is hiring a mascot.
After the team made its official debut in 2026 at the Moda Center, a new job listing was published for a mascot working with the team’s dance team, cheerleaders and choreographer.
The posting says the new mascot will represent the Fire through performances and community events, regularly pitch “new and innovative ideas for in-game skits in collaboration with Game Experience.”

The mascot position will also be responsible for scheduling and overseeing rehearsals, workouts, practice sessions, and any other extra-curricular activities.
The schedule aligns with the Fire’s game days and other select promotional or community events, and will include evenings, weekends and holidays as needed.
The mascot will ideally have three years of live performance experience as a mascot, character, hype crew member or something similar, and will be able to dance, tumble, flip, dunk off a trampoline, run, jump, balance, throw T-shirts, be comfortable with heights, and have other performance skills to “enhance the character” such as sign language, juggling, improvisation, or else.
The listing says the mascot candidate will possess the “ability to excite, motivate, and entertain a crowd – having a great sense of humor is a must.”
The candidate will also have to attend live in-person auditions in late June.
Many other characteristics are listed as desired for the Fire’s future mascot, and all can be found on the job listing’s page online. Applicants will have to submit a recent video reel for consideration.
It is currently unclear what the team’s mascot will look like, but old fans of the team will remember its original mascot, Spot; a dalmatian.
The part-time contract pays $100-$130 an hour.
