Engineering PhD candidate Ahmed Shahin is one of seven recipients of the 2025 Vanier Scholarship. This prestigious award, valued at $50,000 for up to three years, is one of the most competitive scholarships available to doctoral students in Canada.Â
Shahin, whose co-supervisors are IQC faculty Dr. Na Young Kim, professor, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Dr. Kevin Musselman, professor, Department of Mechatronics and Mechanical Engineering, is researching advanced gas-sensing technology and aims to make it more affordable, efficient and accessible.Â
Funded by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), the Vanier Scholarship recognizes exceptional academic performance, research potential, and leadership. Shahin is one of seven University of Waterloo students to receive the award this year, highlighting the university’s continued excellence in graduate research and innovation.
