Shasta Groene and author Gregg Olsen will sign copies of “Out of the Woods” at the Well-Read Moose in Coeur d’Alene tonight.

COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho — Gregg Olsen and Shasta Groene will sign copies of “Out of the Woods,” the story of the Groene family murders, at the Well-Read Moose on Friday, Aug. 8 from 5-7 p.m.

The book dives into Groene’s story following the 2005 murders of her family members and her kidnapping and sexual assault.

Now 20 years since the murders, Groene said it is “the right time, the right way, and the right person to help me tell the whole truth—from the beginning to the very end.”

In a social media post, Groene explained why she’s sharing her story: “For so long, people told me my truth was too much—too hard to hear, too painful to face. But I lived it. I survived it. And now, I’m finally telling it. OUT OF THE WOODS isn’t just my story—it’s about survival, about the flaws in our system, and about how we find the strength to overcome even the darkest moments.”

Groene was just eight years old when convicted sex offender Joseph Duncan murdered her mother Brenda Groene, her mother’s boyfriend and son at their home near Coeur d’Alene.

Groene and her brother Dylan were kidnapped by Duncan and molested for weeks in the Idaho wilderness. Dylan was eventually murdered. Groene was rescued after 47 days, when she and Duncan were spotted in public and he was arrested.

Olsen and Groene will be signing books in other cities in the area later this weekend.
