Dan Negrea, Representative of the United States to the United Nations Economic and Social Council — Remarks at the UN Security Council on Threats to International Peace and Security: Drone Incursions

Thank you, Madam President. Thank you, Director Gotoh, for your briefing today. We welcome in the Council, Romania’s Foreign Minister Ms. Oana-Silvia Țoiu.

Colleagues, we condemn the reckless incursion of a Russian military drone, which crossed into Romanian airspace and struck a Romanian apartment building, injuring multiple people.

The United States stands with its NATO Ally Romania. Our thoughts are with the injured and all affected in Galati. As we have said before, we will defend every inch of NATO territory.

The incident further underscores why the Russia-Ukraine war must immediately end.

The United States reiterates its call for an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire as a step towards a durable, negotiated end to the war. The war must stop.

The United States remains ready to do whatever possible to immediately end the Russia-Ukraine war for good. Thank you.
