A Dallas doctor has been arrested and charged with sexual assault of a patient, according to court and medical board records.
Dr. Narinder Kumar Monga, 81, was arrested in May and charged with felony sexual assault, according to Dallas County court records. In response to the criminal charge, the Texas Medical Board temporarily suspended Monga’s medical license.
The court records do not indicate Monga’s relationship to the alleged victim. The medical board’s disciplinary notice, however, says Monga was arrested for “felony sexual assault of one patient.” A Dallas police report did not contain additional information on the circumstances of the charge, but confirmed that law enforcement arrested Monga at his home in May.
Monga’s attorney did not respond to requests for comment. Monga could not be reached at a phone number or email address listed in his name.
Medical board records show that Monga specializes in colon and rectal surgery, with a secondary specialty in general surgery. He’s been practicing in Texas for 44 years, according to board records. Monga’s primary practice location is listed as a residential address in North Dallas.
The Texas Medical Board has taken action against Monga one time before. In 2017, the board found that Monga had reached toward a female staff member’s hip and asked about loose strings hanging from her pants. The staff member, according to the board record, felt uncomfortable and pushed Monga’s hands away.
In that case, Monga agreed to a remedial plan requiring continuing education and a $500 administrative fee. His remedial plan was successfully completed and lifted later in 2017.
Dallas County court records do not indicate when Monga is scheduled to appear in court for the sexual assault charge. The Texas Medical Board wrote in its license suspension notice, on May 27, that Monga was not in law enforcement custody at the time.
