Jury finds 2 men guilty in JCPS bus stop murder case

A jury has returned a verdict in the deadly JCPS bus stop shooting case.

Demaurion Moore and Mekhi Cable were both found guilty of murder in the 2021 shooting death of 16-year-old Tyree Smith.

Prosecutors say Moore and Cable were targeting another teenage boy as part of an ongoing feud.

Cable’s attorney, Justin Brown, pointed out that witness testimony doesn’t show Cable was at the scene of the shooting.

“Does witness testimony put Mekhi at the scene? No. Do any videos put Mekhi at the scene? No. Did the photographs? No,” Brown said.

Moore’s attorney pushed back on this.

“My client is not on surveillance. He’s not on video getting into a Jeep. He’s not identified,” said Nicholas Boggs. “And regardless of what Mr. Cable has tried to do, regardless of how hard he’s tried to shift the blame, that remains a fact. Demaurion Moore is not guilty.”
