In its third World Cup, Canada is still seeking its first-ever win in the competition after a 1-1 draw with Bosnia and Herzegovina to open group play.
The Canadians trailed early in the match after a combination of headers off a corner that resulted in a goal by Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Jovo Lukic.

Canada had plenty of close calls trying to level things before finally breaking through in the 78th minute on a beautiful strike in the box by Cyle Larin that ended up in the back of the net.
In the end, it was a deserved result that keeps both teams firmly in the mix with Group B’s other contenders, Switzerland and Qatar.
The second match of the day will feature the U.S. vs. Paraguay in Group C as the Americans kick off their World Cup.

My big takeaway from the draw is that Group B could be well-positioned for three teams in the Round of 32. I’m not discounting Qatar entirely, but if Canada and Bosnia and Herzegovina get wins against the Qataris, they, along with Switzerland, should be moving on.

Canada nearly snatched back one more goal in the final minute of stoppage time, but a great block from the Bosnian defense keeps it level.
Canada and B&H will leave the game with a point apiece — the first-ever World Cup point in Canada’s history, as Les Rouges had lost all six of its previous games in the tournament.

Moments after subbing on, Cyle Larin hits a stunning finish through traffic to equalize for Les Rouges. Canada finally, finally finds the back of the net after knocking on the door for much of the second half.
That’s Canada’s third World Cup goal all-time, and just the second scored by a Canadian player in the global tournament.

Moments later, Jacob Shaffelburg tries to argue with the officials as well after what he thought was a missed call. The frustration for the Canadians is clear.

If someone can surpass what Sead Kolašinac did to keep Bosnia and Herzegovina’s lead at 1-0, it’ll be otherwordly. It was a minor miracle Kolašinac was able to keep Richie Laryea’s shot out of the net.

Moments later, a quick counterattack nearly sees Ermedin Demirović beat Maxime Crépeau, but the Canada goalkeeper denies the opportunity.
