The NHL trade market has some fresh fish. While it is unlikely that the Pittsburgh Penguins will be involved in the Darnell Nurse saga, it is not impossible, and Pittsburgh might be one of Nurse’s preferred landing spots. Also, his connection with Penguins general manager Kyle Dubas could be a key link. The Edmonton hockey media is all over the story, though their expectations for a return are vastly different from our analysis of any potential Penguins trade.

Elsewhere in the Daily, John Tortorella is fired up and is sharpening his team for a battle in Game 6 to avoid losing the Stanley Cup. Sportsnet laid out four buyout candidates, and Edmonton is already looking at alternate candidates for their vacant head coach position in the event Mike Babcock is prohibited from taking the job.

Today is the Mexican War Streets Yard Sale day. I don’t have much junk left to sell, but I do have some spiffy bobbleheads and a few old books that I’m going to set out. I won’t have very much for sale, but if you need a glass of wine and a rest, grab a chair and we’ll talk some hockey.

Also, if you’re up for a roadie today, the single greatest little festival within driving distance is in Marienville: The BIGFOOT FESTIVAL! Oh my, it is a sight to behold. I stumbled across it on the bike a few years ago, pulled in, and was forever changed. From the dude in the Al Bundy Polk High jersey that won the Sasquatch calling competition to the exhibits, including one with a seven foot tall wood carving of what they claimed was a female Big Foot, it was … just pure, unadulterated awesomeness.

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: We dove in headfirst. With the first report that the Penguins were on Darnell Nurse’s list of preferred destinations, it only makes sense to examine the possibility. From all angles and possibilities, old connections and needs, we dug into the possibility of and the potential pieces involved in a Penguins trade.

Yahoo: I forgot to include this yesterday because I’m not wild about the source material. Too many aggregators and readers confuse speculation with reports. I think this one case, but it will be out there. Could the Buffalo Sabres put Owen Power on the trade block to free up cash to sign Alex Tuch?

TSN: Unfortunately, a lot of TSN video content isn’t available to an American audience (and there’s no American outlet that has such a volume of hockey content. I failed in my push to get there). However, John Tortorella is bringing some swagger to his pressers and is pushing his team for Game 6.

Spector’s Hockey: There are a lot of stories bouncing around Edmonton regarding a Darnell Nurse trade. It would seem the Edmonton folks are expecting a real return. They’re floating names like Morgan Reilly and Dougie Hamilton and real returns in a Nurse trade.

New Jersey Hockey Now: Nico Hischier. Will he re-sign or will he be trade fodder? James Nichols discounts the trade avenues and reports that a Hischier extension shouldn’t worry the Devils.

Philly Hockey Now: Another team speculated as a potential landing spot for Nurse is … the Philly Flyers. Will James puts that idea on the operating table, what could a Flyers trade look like?

NHLtraderumors.me: Oh boy. No Mike Babcock? Fine. The Oilers might go even older school and turn to well traveled, successful but incredibly grinding coach Darryl Sutter. No joke, says Frank Seravalli.

Just a thought here. How many coaches have won a Stanley Cup with a second team? Only one in the modern era; Scotty Bowman. Yeah. So why insist on a coach who has won a Cup elsewhere?
